How it works
The life of a kept file, from the first byte to its hundredth renewal.
1. The file gets an address
The browser reads the file as a stream and hashes it with IPFS’s unixfs-v1-2025 profile (CIDv1, raw leaves, 1 MiB chunks, 1,024 links per node). The CID is the same one any current IPFS node gives those bytes, and it never changes, however many times a copy moves.
2. One payment, split
The price is year one’s rent plus a share of the pool sized to pay every year after. For one gigabyte: $0.54 goes to the providers for year one and $15.43 joins the pool, $15.97 in all. See Pricing.
3. The pool earns
Every payment lands in one shared pool, held 80% as USDC lent on Kamino and 20% as SOL staked with Jito. Only the interest is spent; the principal stays. See The pool.
4. Renewal
Each copy is renewed 30 days before its term ends, paid from the pool’s interest. You are never billed again.
5. Repair
Every copy is fetched and checked every 24 hours. When one fails, it is rebuilt from the other two on a new provider and the pool pays for it.
6. $DEED
The 3% trading tax, after Meteora’s 20%, is paid into the pool. A million dollars of trading puts $24,000 in. See $DEED.
